This 2 hour practice is for those of you on the Stevens Tech or the Don Bosco teams participating in the summer league. If you are on these teams PLEASE ATTEND THIS PRACTICE.

This practice is at the suggestion of a number of people on the Don Bosco team after our defeat on Tuesday. In response I have rented a VERY nice field...the Steven's Tech field in Hoboken where the summer league takes place. To help off-set some of the cost, bring $10 cash with you.

The last scrimmage we were not able to practice much because many of you were not able to attend. This practice I expect full participation from you. We will practice with our respective teams:

1) Offensive formations/ Team offense
2) Defensive formation/ Team defense
3) Face-offs
4) Clears/rides
5) Man Up/Man Down teams
6) Substitutions

We will conclude practice with a half hour full field scrimmage between the Stevens Tech Orcas and the Don Bosco Orcas. Let me know if you have any questions.

Orcsas vs. The Bulls

Good luck guys. For the second game focus on improving communication with eachother.

Offensively:
Slow down the offense, let everyone get a touch before we drive to the cage. This allows everyone to get warmed up and get some confidence throwing and catching. Identify who the shooters are on the team, and when they have the ball, clear your defender away. Finally, let's not crowd the crease. Treate it like the paint in basketball...if you are on the crease longer than 5 seconds, get off and pick for someone or move away.

Defensively:
I watched a game after our game the other night. One of the teams was playing incredible defense. It was not that they were individually better than the other team. It was their communication. Each person called "I got slide" and "I got second slide" every time the ball moved. It was amazing. By calling out the slides, they reminded themselves that they have to slide, and let their team know they have the slide and almost as importantly, it let the other team know they were prepared. This communication allowed those slides to come confidently and HARD. Let's work on that tonight.

On The Sidelines:
BE POSITIVE. Talk to eachother and give constructive feedback when people get off the field. If you come off the field together, discuss a strategy to help eachother get a good shot off or double the ball the next time you are on the field.

GOOD LUCK!!!

We have reserved one of the nicest full turf (the fast kind of turf) fields on Manhattan for 2 hours. While this event is open to all people on this site, everyone who will be playing in the summer league should attend...ultimately this is a practice to get used to playing together on our respective Mon/Wed and Tues/Thurs teams. For the first 45 - 60 minutes we will practice as separate teams. Then we will break into at least a one hour scrimmage (we will officiate ourselves so keep it clean).

During practice I want at least the follow covered/ established/practiced:
1) Man-up Offense/ Man Down Defense
2) Face offs
3) Fast Breaks
4) Defensive Middie vs. Offensive Middie lines
5) Team Defense (Zone?, Slide from crease?)
6) Team Offense (1-4-1?, 2-3-1?)

I want us to WIN this year and demonstrate the growth of our club. Please take this seriously. The best way for us to have fun this summer will be to win. There will be a $20 per person fee to help cover some of the expense. We will deduct the difference from the team fund. Thank you and I look forward to seeing you all on the field.
